I've been checking out the Weather Channel for the past couple of hours. Apparently, since nothing horrible has happened, they've changed their focus to potential storm surges. Focusing on the worst case scenarios, rather than the most likely ones. Let's freak everyone out.
Sensationalist crap rather than what people really need to know (because facts can't keep people entertained for hours on end). I am quite happy that the storm apparently veered more east, and isn't going to do as much damage as we had feared. But I guess that doesn't make for good news.
To all of our 'viners who are in the path of the storm, I don't mean to belittle what you're going through. I'm belittling how the Weather Channel is reporting this. It's as if they're disappointed that they can still stand on the beach, with the wind blowing their sleeves around, and not be able to show any buildings being washed away.
I support the evacuations, because safety does have to come first - hurricane paths are unpredictable. But the Weather Channel seems like a parasite to me, right now.
