Most people are pretty good about publishing their articles/seeds only to appropriate nations, but some people like to publish their stuff to every nation in which they're a member. I don't want to remove those people as members, because at least in "my" nation, they're not doing it to be dicks, they're really just not thinking about which nations are appropriate. If it's someone who does it a lot, an email may be in order, asking them not to do it - but sometimes it's just one-offs.
I'll go in and unclip political stuff from Religious Chat, the nation where I'm co-admin, because we don't want politics in there. We already have a few articles on clipping to appropriate nations - this isn't about that. What I have are a few questions about unclipping:
- If you unclip an article before there are any comments, does the author get a notification that it's been removed from the nation?
- If you unclip an article after someone has commented, do the authors of the comments get notified that their comments have been deleted (assuming their comments do get deleted when the article is unclipped - what does happen to those comments)?
- If existing comments are deleted when you unclip an article, and some people have gotten pretty involved in a discussion in your nation- what's the best option? You don't want to delete a good conversation and screw over the commenters - it's not their fault they followed the conversation into a nation where it's off topic - but you don't want to have to moderate, say, political crap, and don't want to set a precedence.
Thoughts? With the election coming up, I'm finding I have to unclip more off-topic articles, and so I'm wondering about the best way to handle these things.
